A gripping new thriller that is essential viewing for fans of Line of Duty and Ozark has just landed on a major streaming platform.

Featuring Billy Magnussen (No Time to Die) and Yellowstone: 1923 star James Badge Dale, this tense crime drama is set in the Ozark Mountains and has been pitched with the compelling tagline of “Romeo and Juliet meets Scarface”.

Magnussen plays Lucas Frost, the black sheep of a notorious criminal family who is attempting to live a respectable life and escape the dark shadow of his family’s past.

However, Lucas is devastated when his fiancée, Emma (played by Alexandra Shipp), is murdered during a robbery carried out by his own cousins, including the volatile and sadistic Sid (Dale).

Certain that the deputy sheriff — who also happens to be his mother Darlene (Kate Burton) — will fail to bring his cousins to justice, Lucas joins forces with his half-brother Tuck (Nick Stahl) to hunt down Sid and his gang and exact their revenge, reports the Mirror.

Violent Ends distinguishes itself from similar thrillers through its distinctive 1990s Ozarks setting, and delivers electrifying performances from its lead cast in an action-packed revenge story that will keep viewers firmly on the edge of their seats.

For those searching for something to watch this weekend, Paramount+ has added the film to its catalogue this week.

One fan on IMDb said: “This thriller tragedy starts slow and ends with a bang. The story is a cross between Romeo and Juliet and Scarface, which is self-explanatory.

“There is some action, but it’s the thrills, suspense, and twists that make the movie truly captivating.”

Another viewer cautioned that Violent Ends is certainly not for the faint-hearted, writing: “You can’t name your film Violent Ends and not have some reasonably high levels of violence throughout the movie. And it does. It is quite brutal at times.

“What I really liked though was that it made the bad guys really monstrous. They were pure evil and it was especially easy to root for the good guys for this reason. A very important element to any revenge movie.”

A further enthusiastic viewer hailed it as a “wonderful crime movie”, adding: “Very good atmosphere, fantastic acting, great cinematography and good editing.

“I was not expecting much from this movie but it surprised the hell out of me. Violent, rugged, raw, shocking and moving all at the same time. If you want a well made crime movie that is very heavy and atmospheric give this movie a try.

“It pulled me in right from the very start and didn’t let go. Also has very well written dialogue too that will pull you in.”

Fancy a gripping viewing experience packed with scenes that’ll have you peering through your fingers? This one’s well worth a watch.

Violent Ends is available to stream on Paramount+.
