The novel is a powerful warning about totalitarianism and the loss of freedom and truth. The novel‘s original title was ‘The Last Man in Europe’, Orwell changed the title to 1984 in 1948, which was a reversal of the last two digits of the year he wrote it.

This change in title came from Orwell’s desire to create a title that would be more memorable and impactful, given the novel’s bleak themes.
