Ditch Sky Q and get ultimate TV upgrade at ‘lowest ever’ price
If your TV and broadband bills are making you wince each month, Sky has a deal which can make things feel a little more affordable. The telecoms firm has just announced a bunch of summer offers, including the promise of its lowest ever price when you take out a TV and ultimate broadband bundle. Those signing up will get access to the Essential TV & 900Mbps Full Fibre Broadband plan for just £35 per month. The main caveat is that it’s not available on Sky Q systems, with customers needing to stream instead.
That sounds like a pretty tempting discount, but what do you get for your money? As the name suggests, this option comes with ultimate 900Mbps broadband speeds, which are some of the fastest in the country.
At 900 Mbps, you can download a full HD movie in under 40 seconds, which is about 10 times faster than standard speeds.
The deal also comes with a Stream TV box, so, as we mentioned before, it’s not powered by the usual satellite dish. Instead, all shows, movies and boxsets are beamed into living rooms using the web instead.
As part of the package, homes get access to over 100 channels, including Sky Atlantic, along with Netflix and discovery+.
Before signing on the dotted line, there are some things to be aware of. Firstly, you will need to join Sky for two years, and the monthly subscription price will increase during the term.
It’s also worth checking out what speeds are available in your street, as not everyone can access 900Mbps downloads.
Sky uses BT’s Openreach infrastructure to beam the web into homes, and you can see what type of fibre is available by checking your postcode here.
As we mentioned before, this offer comes with a Sky Stream box, which doesn’t feature any internal storage like Sky Q.
Instead, recordings are stored on the cloud via Sky’s Playlists function. Want to know more? Read out Sky Stream review.
Another thing worth mentioning is that the Essential plan only comes with a limited number of channels. Those wanting more will need to switch to the Sky Ultimate TV option which costs £6 more but does include Disney+, Hayu and bonus channels like Sky One, Sky Comedy, Sky Witness and more.
What about Sky’s rivals?
As a guide, Virgin Media currently has a TV and broadband plan with Netflix for £33.99 per month. That is slightly cheaper than Sky but only comes with 362Mbps speeds rather than 900Mbps downloads.
BT is probably the most expensive, with the UK provider charging over £50 for 900Mbps and TV with Netflix. You can see the deals below.
