Tiny island with year-round sun is a 2024 holiday hotspot | Travel News | Travel

Package are a fantastic option for Britons who want to pay for everything ahead of their and limit the risk of unexpected costs while abroad. According to new data released by , there is a small Caribbean destination which has been named the “most searched for” package holiday destination for 2024.

St Kitts, with 261 square kilometres of territory, and roughly 50,000 inhabitants, is the smallest sovereign state in the Western Hemisphere.

However, according to data from British Airways’ latest Travel Trends Report, it’s a thriving package holiday hotspot which has seen a 97 percent increase in package holiday searches this year.

Though smaller than its neighbouring islands of Barbados and Antigua, the island has an excellent offering for tourists, including its toasty year-round temperatures and lots of sunshine.

St Kitts experienced average highs of approximately 28C throughout the year, and though the islands of St Kitts and Nevis have a wet season between July and December, temperatures remain warm.

Though you can take connecting flights from the UK to St Kitts, British Airways flies direct to St. Kitts’ Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport (SKB) twice a week from London’s Gatwick Airport.

According to British Airways: “The cheapest month to fly to St. Kitts is generally May or June when you can save on flights and accommodation and still enjoy the balmy tropical weather. Peak high season for tourists is from December to April.”

Holidays tend to be more affordable if you travel outside of the peak season, with British Airways noting that many Britons are choosing to travel during the “shoulder seasons” in a bid to save money.

The growth in searches from customers looking to travel in May and June 2024 was double the level for trips in July and August 2024 when compared to the same period in 2023.

On the island’s southwestern coast is the capital, Basseterre, which is recognisable from it colourful Georgian buildings which date back to the colonial era. At its heart is the Circus, a plaza modelled after London’s Piccadilly Circus, complete with a Victorian-style clock tower.

While relaxing on the beach or by the pool is undoubtedly a popular activity for holidaymakers on the island, St Kitts also offers plenty of opportunities to get active and explore its unique natural landscape. The Mount Liamuiga volcano hike is listed as one of the most popular activities on the island according to Tripadvisor, offering incredible views from the dormant volcanic mountain.

The island offers a range of hotels and resorts, including budget, family-friendly and luxury options.

One of the top-rated resorts on St Kitts is Timothy Beach Resort in Frigate Bay, which won a Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award for 2023.
