Sky confirms huge upgrade for millions of users and it’s easy to activate it

Sky Mobile has made a major change to its service, and it’s good news for those heading away this summer. The TV and telecoms giant says it is boosting the number of areas that can access the Roaming Passport Plus service. This option basically lets those with Android or iPhone devices access their UK data, calls and text allowances for just £2 per day. Previously, there were just 55 destinations covered by Roaming Passport Plus, but that has now been upgraded to 120 areas across the EU/EEA, the USA, Australia and more

Sky says that activating this update is easy as there’s nothing to install, download or set up. Customers can just pay the fee and begin roaming as soon as they get off the plane.

For added ease, customers will receive a text to confirm when their 24‑hour roaming period starts, and another when it’s about to end.

“Sky’s Roaming Passport Plus is the straightforward way to roam. It lets customers use their UK data, calls and text allowances as if they were still in the UK while in one of the destinations for just £2 a day,” Sky explained in an email.

Here are some of the new destinations included.

India • Egypt • Singapore • Barbados • Jamaica • Bahamas • Morocco • Peru • Mauritius • China

Sky is boasting that those heading to areas such as the US could save money when compared to rival networks such as EE and Vodafone.

For example, EE and Vodafone charge around £6 per day to use devices in the US.

Of course, if you are travelling it is still worth shopping around for the cheapest SIM deals with roaming included. Providers like Giffgaff offer EU roaming at no extra charge.

It’s also worth looking at eSIM providers such as Airalo and Holafly, with these services offering short-term deals that let customers access data when abroad.

For example, Airalo is currently offering 3 days of data (up to 1GB) for just £3.50.

These eSIMs take seconds to install and don’t affect your main SIM from your UK provider.

Data roaming can be expensive, so make sure you get the best deal before packing up the suitcase and printing your boarding card.
