The Scottish Grand National gets underway at Ayr today, with a couple of significant absentees confirmed for the headline race. Willie Mullins had been targeting a third successive victory in the four-mile contest, following triumphs for Macdermott in 2024 and Captain Cody 12 months prior.

However, his sole entry, Road To Home, has been withdrawn from the race. Ask Brewster, who got the better of Road To Home in the Kim Muir at the Cheltenham Festival, is also a non-runner, with conditions currently Soft (Heavy in Places) after heavy rainfall on Friday and overnight into Saturday. Montregard bids to hand JP McManus his first victory in the race, hot on the heels of I Am Maximus’ Grand National triumph at Aintree just one week ago.

The gelding secured a handicap chase victory over three miles at Ascot on his most recent outing in February, having previously finished behind The Jukebox Kid — who is well fancied for the Irish Grand National — when pulled up on the occasion before that.
