Michael Carrick contract details leaked as Man Utd table offer to manager | Football | Sport

Manchester United are set to table an offer to Michael Carrick for a two-year deal as head coach. Carrick, who assumed interim managerial duties following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim in January, has made a positive impression in the dugout at Old Trafford. The Red Devils sit third in the table, and appear poised to secure Champions League football next season.

And they could be doing so with Carrick at the helm, with discussions reportedly ongoing after co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe authorised the move following a meeting with chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox regarding Carrick’s future. According to The Athletic, there remains a chance an agreement can be reached in time for United’s final home fixture of the campaign against Nottingham Forest.

The report adds that the deal will see Carrick take the reins at the Red Devils for two years, with the possibility of an additional season taking him through to 2029.

His backroom team are expected to remain in place, with assistant Steve Holland, coaches Jonathan Woodgate and Jonny Evans all poised to secure fresh contracts. Meanwhile, Craig Mawson, who was elevated to first-team goalkeeping coach, will also retain a senior position.

United missed out on European football under Amorim last season – yet the club stood by the Portuguese manager until January, eventually parting ways with him as Darren Fletcher stepped in as caretaker boss.

Carrick then replaced Fletcher after two matches, with the Red Devils confirming he would remain in the role until the end of the campaign. Nevertheless, Carrick has turned heads by guiding United into the top three, securing memorable victories against Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool in the latter half of the campaign.
