Humiliation for Starmer as Question Time audience blasts Labour chaos | Politics | News
A BBC Question Time audience united in condemning Labour after a week in which Sir Keir Starmerās premiership appeared to be hanging by a thread. Several audience members at Thursday’s show, filmed in central London ā a traditional hotbed of Labour support ā blasted Sir Keir and the Government for the chaos that ensued after a briefing that attacked Health Secretary Wes Streeting for supposedly plotting against the PM.
The episode began with one Londoner asking: āAt the last election Labour, promised that the āadults would now be back in the roomā. After this weekās Cabinet briefings and internal sniping, where are they?ā Labour minister Alex Davies-Jones admitted that the weekās headlines had been āa regrettable distraction to say the leastā from the Governmentās policy agenda.
Ms Davies-Jones said she understands why voters care about this, ābecause they care about the character of the man leading our country ā that is only right, that is only naturalā.
She said this weekās briefing and headlines āmade me angry, I think it made everybody angry because itās drama we donāt need”.
She added: āIām blaming whoever is responsible for leaking this, for briefing against us. Weāve got a really big job to do in terms of rebuilding our country ⦠this is not helpful to say the least.ā
Defending Sir Keir, she insisted he was focused on delivering for voters.
However, as host Fiona Bruce returned to the audience for their input, it was clear the Labour ministerās defence had failed to win them over.
A second audience member demanded to know why voters should believe Sir kEIR has āfull faithā in his chief of staff, after sacking two high-profile figures he previously claimed to have āfull faithā in.
The audience member pointed out: āOne of the other people thatās not been mentioned is Morgan McSweeney, and his whole role in this. The Prime Ministerās said that he has āfull confidenceā in him and heās not going anywhere.
āWe have heard that twice already, with Angela Rayner ā whom he had full confidence in and is now gone ā and Lord Mandelson, whom he had full confidence in and is now gone.
“So why is it different the third time? Why should we believe him when twice before he had confidence in a high-ranking minister, and a few days later he didnāt?”
A third member quipped that this week had looked ālike No 10 is in an episode of The Traitors!ā
A fourth blasted: āI think the whole country has its head in their hands. Every time they put the television on or watch the news, itās all doom and gloom. Whenās something positive going to happen? Thatās what the country needs.
Lastly, a woman fumed: āThis is a mess, actually, and people have lost faith in all parties. No one trusts anyone and weāre actually a joke globally as well.ā
Reform UKās Danny Kruger said the reason the Government is falling apart is because the Prime Minister ādoesnāt actually believe in anything, and he came into Government saying he was going to deliver change but without any planā.
