Grand Central shooting: New York station stabbing as police fire at ‘machete stabber’ | World | News

-Police responded to a violent incident at Grand Central Terminal in New York on Saturday morning, with early reports of both a shooting and a stabbing on the uptown 4, 5 and 6 subway platform.

-According to the FDNY, two people were taken to hospital in critical condition. Later reports suggested three commuters were injured — an 85-year-old man, a 70-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man. One victim who was stretchered away appeared to have suffered head wounds.

-Witnesses told PIX11 and WPIX they saw at least one person slashed with what appeared to be a machete.

-One witness said officers already had their guns drawn when they arrived on the platform and were shouting for the suspect to drop the weapon before the suspect was shot.

-According to the New York Post, the attack appeared to be unprovoked and the suspect was later shot by police. The suspect’s identity and condition have not yet been confirmed. Two police officers were also taken to hospital, although they were said to be in stable condition.

-The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said 4, 5 and 6 trains were bypassing Grand Central-42nd Street due to an NYPD investigation, with commuters warned to expect disruption.

-State Governor Kathy Hochul said she had been briefed on the “horrific incident” and thanked officers for acting quickly to stop the suspect.
