Google is about to unleash a big update that will make millions of current Android phones look hugely inferior. The US technology giant has confirmed it will hold a launch event on August 12, where it is set to reveal its next-generation Pixel devices. Announcing the news, emails sent to the world’s media said: “Come celebrate with us in NYC on August 12. It’s the night the next generation of Pixel arrives.”

If all the rumours come true, it seems almost certain that the US firm will reveal new flagship Pixel 11 call makers, including standard and Pro models, which will replace the current Pixel 10 devices.

Most likely upgrades are sure to be better cameras, a faster Tensor processor, a refreshed design and improved battery life.

Google always likes to add some extra smart features to its devices as well, so that’s something else to watch out for.

Along with the 11 and 11 Pro, some reports suggest that Google’s foldable will be back. Renders have even appeared online, via serial leaker Evan Blass, which show a very similar look to the last Pixel Fold announced by Google.

One change that has been spotted is a new “Pixel Glow” LED on the rear case, which might suggest Google is following British technology firm Nothing, with a notification light that eliminates the need to look at the screen. It’s been a bit of a hit on Nothing’s range of devices, with users able to see when calls and texts are arriving even when the display is face down on a desk. It’s also not something found on any Samsung Galaxy or iPhone devices.

The big Pixel showcase will add to the rush of devices arriving in the second half of the year.

This is joined by a Z Fold8 Ultra and Z Flip8, which also get more durable designs, faster processors and other extras such as a boost to photography.

The iPhone Fold could also be joined by a new iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, which could be two of the most powerful phones Apple has ever launched.

One thing we might not see is a standard iPhone 18 this year. It’s thought that Apple will hold back unveiling an update to the current iPhone 17 until 2027.

It’s certainly going to be an exciting few months ahead for phone fans and the next announcement from Google is now just a few days away.
