New analysis of international flight disruption data has found that British travellers in Greece are more likely to encounter lengthy delays to their flights, than most other European destinations.

The research conducted by AirAdvisor’s flight intelligence platform measures the percentage of flights delayed by 60 minutes or more, when delays occurred to services between June and September 2025.

Seven popular Greek holiday destinations including Kefalonia, Corfu and Rhodes feature within the 20 destinations where flight delays were most lengthy in summer 2025.

Despite an Italian airport taking the top spot, Greece as a whole was found to be the most disruption prone country.

The delays are partly due to the popularity of the nation for Brits and holidaymakers from across the world.

The airports are also usually smaller hubs and often operate at maximum capacity.

Kefalonia in Greece had a shocking 11.79 per cent of flights to UK airports delayed by more than 60 minutes during the outlined period.

Anton Radchenko, CEO of AirAdvisor explains: “Our research found that Greece is by some distance the most disruption-prone country for UK air passengers.

“Seven of the twenty most disrupted destinations for holidays from the UK to Europe are Greek islands, which might not come as a surprise to frequent travellers to these airports.

“They tend to be much smaller than hubs in major metropolitan centres and are incredibly popular with holidaymakers from across the world.

“During the summer period, they frequently operate at maximum capacity, so that means that when a mass disruption event occurs, there are implications for other services.

“When delays start to build up at an airport, a domino effect can occur, causing flights across a single day being pushed back, leading to higher rates of delays, particularly at peak periods.”

The government’s regulations highlight that if your flight is delayed for more than three hours, or if it’s cancelled, you may be eligible for compensation.

The total compensation amount depends on the delay’s length and the flight’s distance.
