Argos dishes out cheap Fire TV Sticks but Amazon has something miles better

It seems like now is a very good time to buy a Fire TV Stick. Argos and Currys have both slashed the price of the HD model which brings the cost down to just £24.99 – that’s a £15 saving. As a quick guide, this device offers full access to all the most popular streaming apps such as Netflix, Prime Video and Disney+. Everything can be viewed in full HD and it gets features such as Alexa voice search, quick keys for faster app launching and the ability to control other smart devices such as lights.

Amazon has just released this update, which now features a more slimline design, improved performance and access to faster Wi-Fi 6 broadband speeds.

Another bonus is that it no longer needs to be plugged into the mains; it gets all its power via the TV’s USB port.

When it launched last month, it was priced at £39.99, but Amazon is already offering a discount, which means it can be popped in online shopping baskets for just £25.99 – that’s 35 per cent off.

Yes, it is £1 more than the Argos and Currys deals, but it does get that new look and bonus features.

Amazon also says the new model is significantly faster than previous HD versions. It is reportedly over 30% quicker on average than the last-generation HD stick, meaning faster start-up times and smoother app loading.

The device also runs the latest Fire OS software, offering a cleaner interface, smarter recommendations and a less cluttered browsing experience.

Explaining more about the update, Amazon said: “The new Fire TV Stick HD is our slimmest streaming device yet – smaller in both volume and width than earlier models – and designed for Direct Power through the TV’s USB port, so it sits more neatly behind a TV without needing a separate power adapter.”
