Nintendo Switch 2 to get upgraded model that fixes common complaint | Gaming | Entertainment
It looks like a new model of the Nintendo Switch 2 might be on the way with an updated screen that seemingly fixes an issue that plenty of owners have complained about.
As highlighted by Nintendo Patents Watch over on BlueSky, a brand new model of the LCD panel that makes up the screen of the Nintendo Switch 2 has been spotted online. “Compared with the launch model from Innolux (img 2), the exposed circuit, connector, and cables are significantly different (imgs 3-4), indicating an updated design—not merely a minor revision,” the post reads.
Many of the specifications appear to be very similar to the original panel used in the Switch 2, but early speculation is that this revised version could address some of the ghosting issues that some gamers have reported experiencing.
Ghosting is common on some LCD panels with objects in motion sometimes appearing smudgy as the image leaves a trail behind it. This is an issue that’s been mostly fixed by OLED screens in recent years thanks to their near instant response times, but older LCD technology still struggles with it.
Nintendo hasn’t officially acknowledged that it’s changing the design of the Switch 2, and with such a minor change, it likely won’t market a brand new SKU like it did with the Switch Lite and Switch OLED. Instead, we’ll most likely see these revised panels make their way into the supply line quietly as the older tech is phased out.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the OLED upgrade that many Nintendo fans were hoping for. Although the Switch 2’s LCD screen is undoubtedly miles better than the one used in the original Switch – thanks to its higher resolution, brightness and contrast ratio – it’s still a far cry from the visuals that OLED panels on the Steam Deck and Switch OLED can provide.
For now, we’ll have to put up with the one SKU of the Nintendo Switch 2 that the company is offering. With Nintendo set to increase the price of the console by $50 in September and hardware prices only set to increase, I wouldn’t expect a Switch 2 Lite or Switch 2 OLED any time soon.
