England could very well get its first snowfall in the coming days, with the latest weather maps showing London covered.

Overnight on November 19, the city can expect to wake up to some level of snow, with London bracing for an 80% chance.

Areas in the north of England from Sheffield to Newcastle will see a near 100% chance of snow next week, with the south and east of the country expecting a 50-80% chance.

Counties in the southwest such as Cornwall and Devon have a lower chance of seeing snow, yet the majority of Wales holds over an 80% probability.

Metdesk shows November 20 to be similar as swathes of purple cover the weather maps. The southwest will see more rainshowers yet the rest of the UK will get up to 19cm of snowfall.

Wales will be the most affected area, yet the capital and areas in the south east will get 4-5 cm. The north sees 2-3 cm of snow with the north of Scotland following Wales with 18cm.

London should brace itself for major disruptions to roads and transport on Thursday 21 as winds push the snowfall to the west and south of the UK, with the majority of England and Scotland easing away from the flurries. Parts of the southwest have a 100% chance of snow this day, with Northern Ireland being affected by an 80% chance.

Frequent wintery showers are expected to be covering the country from November 18-27, according to the Met Office long range forecast. This will hit mainly in the north of the UK, as well as eastern and western coasts which are exposed to the northwesterly flow.

Chillier temperatures with overnight frost, accompanied by strong winds will result in significant wind chill.

Snowfall is expected to cover areas in the UK but only to low levels, especially in the north of the UK. However, many areas more inland will see drier spells with sunshine bursting through the cloud, especially where sheltered from the flow.

The following week sees predictions of a more westerly flow indicating slightly milder weather again, yet weather patterns will remain unsettled going into December.

Today:

Many will wake up to a grey start with patches of fog and a touch of drizzle in places. The northwestern areas will remain under the cloud cover, while other regions may see some bright or sunny spells.

Gentle winds are expected, with temperatures hovering around or slightly above average.

Tonight:

The night will be cloudy with hill fog and patchy drizzle across many northern areas, where it will become increasingly breezy. Clear spells are expected in eastern Scotland, central and southern England and Wales, with patchy fog and frost.

Friday:

Mostly dry conditions with sunshine are expected across central and southern England, south Wales and eastern Scotland. Other areas will be cloudier with hill fog and drizzle.

Heavier rain is expected in the far northwest later. It will be windy in the north.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Rain will move south across England and Wales on Saturday. Brighter, colder conditions with blustery showers are expected elsewhere.

Wind, rain and hill snow are forecasted for Sunday. On Monday, it will be widely colder with sunshine and showers, some of which may be wintry.
