The beautiful seaside town set for a huge £12.4m facelift for waterfront plaza | World | News

A beautiful European seaside town is undergoing a major multi-million-pound revamp which will transform the waterfront.

Balbriggan, a coastal town in Fingal, County Dublin, is known for being one of the youngest towns in Ireland. According to a recent census, the average age of the residents is 33.6.

The €15million (£12.4m) promises to make the beach town even more appealing to young people, with a massive 19,300sqm open space featuring a multi-purpose plaza able to host markets, festivals and live music.

Part of a larger €50million (£41.3m) Our Balbriggan Rejuvenation Programme, the facelift will also see “redefine Balbriggan’s beach and coastline, creating an outstanding visitor attraction”, according to Fingal.ie.

River Bracken will also get an upgrade, with new plants and canal-side pathways to enhance the area’s beauty.

The project is already underway, and the town hopes to complete it by the end of next year.

Young families will also benefit from upgraded playgrounds, with further trees planted and more car parking space.

Fingal Mayor Cllr Howard Mahony said: “This project will help transform the area into a much more people-oriented public space.

“Along with enhancing the appeal of the location, a new commercial building and two new kiosks will be built on the site of a former nightclub in the harbour area to accommodate visitor and leisure activities,” he added.

Balbriggan is only around 23 miles by car from the Irish capital, Dublin, where you can catch cheap flights to and from the UK.

The speedy flight time and availability of cheap options make the city a major draw for British tourists.

Flights from London to the Irish capital take an average of one hour and 25 minutes.

Meanwhile, flights from Newcastle or Manchester to Dublin take an average of one hour and five minutes, making it perfect for a weekend break.
