Seoul incident: Nine people killed after car rams into pedestrians | World | News


A car struck pedestrians near Seoul city hall, killing nine people and injuring at least four, according to South Korean media reports citing police and fire officials.

A police official told Reuters that officers were investigating at the scene but declined to provide further details.

YTN TV reported that the vehicle collided with pedestrians standing on the crosswalk after hitting two other cars.

A video provided by a witness to Reuters showed a police officer administering CPR to a person on the ground at the accident site.

Police said the accident took place at an intersection near Seoul city hall. The driver in question, who was arrested at the scene, reportedly told the police the car suddenly accelerated.

Six people died at the scene, while three others died later of their injuries.

Yonhap, South Korea’s news agency, reports that the man arrested was 68 years old.
