Ronnie Coleman, 61, hospitalised after ‘medical emergency’ forces UK tour axe | US | News

Ronnie Coleman, 61, is revered as the most formidable bodybuilder ever. However, he has been forced to call off a number of UK events after being admitted to the hospital in a “serious medical condition.”

Dubbed ‘The King,’ Coleman is unmatched on Mr Olympia wins, having claimed the title a record eight times while also boasting 26 IFBB victories. He is also the strongest Mr Olympia to have ever participated, an achievement he credits to his “genetics.”

Nevertheless, the celebrated powerhouse has endured a harrowing series of health setbacks attributed to his intense training regime, nowadays often confined to a wheelchair following a double hip replacement and numerous other major surgeries.

This Sunday, he broke the news to his British fans that he would have to cancel his UK trip due to another “medical emergency.” A day later, his family requested privacy from speculation, detailing his “serious medical condition,” but saying that he “continues to show incredible strength and resilience.”

The prolific bodybuilder took to Instagram on Sunday to communicate with fans, stating: “Hey guys, I hate to break it to y’all, but I won’t be able to make it out to the UK this week like I planned.”

“Unfortunately, I had a medical emergency and had to stick around here in the US for treatment.

“But don’t worry […] I’m in great hands, getting the best care, and I’m staying strong through it all.

“I’ll be back and better than ever, and I can’t wait to get out there and see you all real soon! Thanks for all the love and support and as always this ain’t nothin but a peanut.”

Despite being confined to a wheelchair, Coleman continues to share workout videos with his large social media following, nearly two decades after he underwent major surgeries.

The Louisiana-born legend has promised fans that he will be walking again “real soon I’ll be walking”, regularly sharing updates on his aquarobics-based recovery routine.

However, his latest health setback is likely to be a significant frustration for Coleman, who had been scheduled to visit various gyms in the UK, including Freedom Gym in Birmingham and Crayford Weights and Fitness in Dartford, before his health emergency led to the cancellation of these appearances.

On Monday, his family released an update stating: “We want to inform Ronnie’s fans, supporters, and the bodybuilding community that Ronnie Coleman was admitted to the hospital on this past Sunday morning due to a serious medical condition.

“He is currently receiving expert medical care and continues to show incredible strength and resilience.

“At this time, we are not sharing additional details, as the focus remains on Ronnie’s recovery and well-being. We kindly ask for your understanding and support in keeping the environment respectful and free of speculation.

“Please rely only on official updates from Ronnie’s family or authorized representatives. We are committed to keeping you informed as appropriate.

“Ronnie has always inspired the world with his toughness and heart, and we know he feels the love and energy being sent his way. With heartfelt regards, The Coleman Family.”
