Queen release 50 years of Freddie Mercury’s Bohemian Rhapsody live video | Music | Entertainment
Today marks the 50th anniversary of the release of Queen’s fourth studio album, A Night at the Opera.
The iconic 1975 record arrived almost a month after lead single Bohemian Rhapsody, which would enjoy a nine-week run at No 1 on the UK chart.
A major piece of British popular culture, the UK’s third-best-selling single of all time, has garnered almost three billion Spotify streams.
Now the latest episode of Queen The Greatest, the band’s official YouTube miniseries, has launched today with a special collage video of Freddie Mercury’s magnum opus performed live across the last five decades.
Sir Brian May reflected in an earlier episode: “The song continues to resonate. We go on stage and play it at the Albert Hall, with a full orchestra and 150-piece choir, and it’s fresh as a daisy. It’s new and exciting, and the reaction you get from people is just amazing. On Live Aid 1985, the Queen guitarist recalled: “The response from the crowd was so deafening,” remembered Brian, “it took your breath away.”
Next week’s Queen The Greatest episode is a Bohemian Rhapsody 360 special. Meanwhile, the limited-edition crystal-clear vinyl reissue of A Night At The Opera, is available here.
