My favourite Amazon Echo just got better and now is the ultimate time to upgrade
When the original Echo Spot was released all the way back in 2018 it was widely ridiculed for having a ‘creepy’ camera tucked inside its circular shell. This Alexa-powered device was meant to be a perfect companion for your bedside table but that lens staring at you all night clearly didn’t appeal to the masses with Amazon quietly discontinuing this mini smart home gadget in 2019.
“There’s plenty of people who feel uneasy about the camera in their laptops let alone the thought of one being installed in the most private room in your home,” I said in my full review of the original Spot.
Now this speaker is back and having put it through its paces there’s better news as it’s definitely one of my favourite Echo devices in a while.
It gets a smart new circular design which is split neatly in half – the bottom part is a decent speaker whilst the top is reserved for a bright and fully customisable display.
This offers useful information at a glance including a clock, timers, weather reports and what music or radio stations are currently playing on the device.
Of course, it’s all powered by Alexa so you can simply bark commands at it and get a useful response.
It’s genuinely a really nice smart speaker that has quickly become one of my favourites to use and the best part is…there’s no creepy camera in sight!
To make this device even more enticing, Amazon has just dropped the price as part of its Big Deal Days sale. At launch, it would have set you back a rather hefty £79.99 but that’s now been dropped to just £44.99 – a saving of 44 percent.
Things get even better if you have an older Echo as you can get a further 25 percent via Amazon’s trade-in scheme.
Of course, if £44.99 sounds like too much to pay there are also deals on the Echo Pop and Echo Dot with prices starting from as little as £19.99.
Don’t like shopping at Amazon? All the firm’s smart speakers can also be purchased at UK retailers such as Argos and John Lewis.
