Nico Hulkenberg has described his disqualification at the Brazilian Grand Prix as a ‘small mistake with a huge consequence’.
The Haas driver got stuck in the run-off at Turn One and was dislodged with assistance, leading to a black flag.
After temporarily re-entering the race, Hulkenberg was disqualified during the red flag break after Franco Colapinto crashed hard into the barriers. In doing so, he became the first driver to receive the black flag since Giancarlo Fisichella at the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix.
“I was beached, which was very unfortunate, after a low-speed spin, which was my mistake,” said Hulkenberg.
“But then it’s quite unlucky to be beached like that. Normally you spin and you continue. So a small mistake with a huge consequence. It’s been a very tough and disappointing weekend.”
