‘English Riviera’ hotel offers ‘spectacular sunset’ views and stays from £33 | Travel News | Travel


With spring just around the corner, and summer soon to follow, what better time than to start thinking ahead to on the beautiful British coastline? With its coastline dubbed to be part of the “English Riviera”, . And now, you can enjoy a stay just steps from one of the brightest gems in the English Riviera’s crown.

Overlooking Paignton Beach, ibis Styles Paignton, part of the Accor family, opened its doors on January 16, 2024, and is said to be the perfect spot to watch the sun dip below the horizon. “The ibis Styles Paignton is in an unbeatable seafront position on Esplanade Road, a stone’s throw from Paignton with a spectacular sunset terrace looking out to sea,” explained ibis.

The modern hotel draws inspiration from the “mythical shorelines” which it looks out over, with nods to sea life and shipwrecks throughout. The hotel chain says it has tried to inject “magic” wherever it can, making it a great spot for the whole family to enjoy.

The compact resort and seaside town offers a long stretch of beachfront, with its iconic promenade, traditional pier and colourful beach huts. During the summer months are when this beachfront really comes to life, and thanks to its mild climate and sub-tropical palm trees, during the toastiest summer days you might even convince yourself you are much further from home.

Nestled between Paignton and Brixham, Broadsands won a Blue Flag Award in 2023 thanks to its commitment to environmental sustainability, water quality, safety, and overall beach management. It’s been given a  and received the prestigious Travellers’ Choice award in 2023.

Prices vary depending on the time of year and availability of rooms, however, Express.co.uk found some extremely purse-friendly rates when booking in advance on the Accor website. Though ibis Styles notes the lead pricing of a stay is on average £70 a night, Express.co.uk was able to find a stay for just £33.15 per night in a standard room.

This comes with a queen-sized double bed and space for an extra bed for children or a crib for babies upon request. The room features a practical bathroom, a flat-screen TV and complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi.

Alternatively, if you want to splash out on something a little bigger, Express.co.uk found a stay in a Premium Room – including the all-important Sea View – for £50.15 a night.

Conveniently situated a five-minute drive from Paignton station and served by six-daily direct trains to London Paddington, ibis is easily accessible for those looking to escape the city.

For those coming from further afield, Plymouth Ferry Port is a 50-minute drive away and the hotel is a 35-minute drive from Exeter airport. If you are bringing the car, there is on-site secure parking for all guests.
