Donald Trump rages at ‘animal’ who shot dead National Guardsmen | World | News
Donald Trump has launched a furious attack on the “animal” who shot two National Guardsmen while sending a huge six-word warning to the suspect. The two victims were both West Virginia National Guard members. Governor for their state Patrick Morrisey confirmed their deaths on social media, writing: “These brave West Virginians lost their lives in the service of their country.”
On his online platform Truth Social, the US President cautioned the shooter that they “will pay a very steep price”. He said: “The animal that shot the two National Guardsmen, with both being critically wounded, and now in two separate hospitals, is also severely wounded, but regardless, will pay a very steep price. God bless our Great National Guard, and all of our Military and Law Enforcement. These are truly Great People. I, as President of the United States, and everyone associated with the Office of the Presidency, am with you!”
Homeland Security secretary Kristi Noem added: “Please join me in praying for the two National Guardsmen who were just shot moments ago in Washington DC.”
“It’s a sombre reminder that soldiers whether they’re active duty or reserve or National Guard, soldiers are the sword and the shield of the United States of America.
Vice President JD Vance, who is visiting US troops at Fort Campbell today to celebrate Thanksgiving, interrupted his speech to honour the victims.
He said: “As a person who goes into work every single day in that building, and knows that there are a lot of people who wear the uniform of the US Army, thank them for what they’re doing, we’re praying they’re going to be safe and be able to spend Thanksgiving with their families.”
FBI director Kash Patel has now confirmed the agency is at the scene of the shooting. Deputy director Dan Bongino, in a post on social media, said: “FBI personnel are assisting with the investigation into the shooting of our National Guard members in DC.
“Please take a moment and pray for these heroes and their families.
“God bless America, and all those who defend her.”
Upon hearing of the shooting, the White House was subsequently placed into lockdown. According to the DC Police Department, one suspect is in custody.
