Fortnite fans are counting down to the release of the brand new update, which is the final big download of Chapter 7, Season 2 – Showdown. Fortnite update 40.41 has a May 28 release date on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2 and mobile – including iOS devices. Needless to say, the new update will launch alongside a period of server downtime, which kicks off at 9am BST UK time.

Fortnite developer Epic Games announced the news on X: “Downtime for v40.41 begins tonight at 4 AM ET (8 AM UTC) to prepare for the end-of-season live event on Friday, June 5. Matchmaking will end shortly beforehand.”

As the tweet points out, the update will add the files for the end of season event, which takes place on Friday, June 5.

It will also lay the foundations for Community Day, which runs for 24-hours from May 30 until May 31.

Fans will be able to earn rewards such as Workplace Foundation style. That’s on top of 5X Rivalry Credits and double XP up to 50 levels.

The Showdown Epilogue also takes place during Community Day, as well as the End of Season Live event preview.

Elsewhere, the update adds the Typical Gamer Outfit and the Redway Ruby Outfit, which both come with alternative colours.

Fans can also purchase the Heist Duffel Back Bling, featuring Typical Gamer’s dog Charlie and cat George.

Finally, expect a selection of bug fixes and gameplay tweaks. You can check out some early patch notes below.

Fortnite update 40.41 early patch notes (updated patch notes to follow)…

Battle Royale

• Players can emote while skydiving

– We are aware of an issue where some players may be able to emote while skydiving at the beginning of a match.

• “Reload” or “Aim Down Sights” not triggering when assigned to the “Shift” key.

– If the player uses custom bindings and assigns the Reload or Aim Down Sights action to the Shift key, their character does not perform the assigned action.

• Sliding or sprinting into open doors may incorrectly cause them to close.

– When players door-bash already open doors either by sprinting or sliding, the doors may incorrectly close on them.

• [Reload] The “Reboot” action may not work if mapped to a custom bind.

– If a player assigns the Reboot action to a custom bind, it may not work. This occurs when both the controller and keyboard inputs are used.
