One of the most hyped games of the year is finally here, as 007 First Light makes its debut on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The James Bond origin story follows the famous spy at the start of his career, exploring how he was recruited and how he handled early missions for the secretive spy agency.

The game is actually available now if you pre-ordered before the deadline, with developer IO Interactive upgrading customers to the Deluxe Edition for free. If you didn’t pre-order and are looking forward to playing the game at launch, then the good news is that the countdown is on and 007 First Light is almost here.

The 007 First Light Standard Edition has a May 27 release date and a 3pm BST release time for fans living in the UK.

That’s 7am PT / 10am ET if you live in the US, or 4pm CET for European James Bond fans looking to play right away.

It certainly looks like the long wait has been worth it, especially if the early reviews are anything to go by.

Despite some reservations about a rather odd cameo, the game has earned an impressive 88% rating on Metacritic (at the time of writing).

This makes it one of the top rated games of the year so far, sitting behind the likes of Forza Horizon 6 and few others.

Critics have praised the performances of the main cast, as well as the gameplay variety and replayability.

Combining stealth action from the likes of Hitman with action gameplay inspired by titles like Uncharted, 007 First Light is a globe-spanning adventure game featuring a young James Bond.

James Bond will visit locations such as Slovakia, Iceland and Vietnam in his quest to become an MI6 agent.

“Follow James Bond as a young, resourceful and sometimes reckless recruit in MI6’s training program, and discover an origin story of the world’s most famous spy,” reads the official description.

“After a heroic act, young Naval air crewman James Bond is offered to join the newly revived Double 0 program. But when a mission to stop a rogue agent ends in tragedy, he must join forces with his reluctant mentor Greenway to expose a deep conspiracy and stop a looming coup at the heart of the State.”
