Forget Ring, Amazon has a cut-price way to secure your home

Ring doorbell cameras have become very popular as they add a layer of security and peace of mind to the front of your house, as well as letting you chat to people at the door when you’re not home via in-built microphones and speakers. But if you want to keep a watchful eye on the inside of your home rather than the porch, there’s an even cheaper way to do so thanks to a notable discount from Amazon.

Right now you can pick up the Blink Mini Pan-Tilt Camera for just £16.99 in a “limited time deal”, down 51 percent from the £34.99 RRP – and you don’t have to have an Amazon Prime subscription to access this great price.

As the name suggests, this tiny indoor camera can pan left and right as well as tilt up and down, all controlled via the Blink app on your iPhone or Android phone. This lets you see all around the room, making this gadget a great affordable way to keep an eye on your home security when you’re out at work or off on holiday for an extended time.

It’s also a top option if you want to keep an eye on your pets should you need to leave them on their own for a time.

Just like Ring, Blink is owned by Amazon, but you can often find Blink cameras sold much cheaper than their Ring counterparts. But that isn’t to say they are worse quality – in fact, the Mini Pan-Tilt Camera has HD video and even boasts two-way audio thanks to mics and a speaker, so you can even talk to your dogs and cats to reassure them you’ll be home soon.

There’s also motion detection built in so you can be alerted via the app if there’s anything untoward going on that you don’t expect. You also get an infrared night view so you can see what’s happening 24/7.

And thanks to the Amazon connection, you can link the camera up with the Alexa voice assistant. If you have an Echo Show device, you can ask Alexa to “show me the living room” and the system will find your camera’s feed and beam it onto the screen so you can see what’s happening even if you’re on the other side of the house.

One thing to note is that you will need a Blink subscription plan to unlock all the features of this affordable camera. Prices start from £2.50 per month, which covers one camera. It’s £8 per month if you want to build a network of multiple Blink lenses.

It’s not clear how long this deal will last, but it’s certainly a very cheap way to add a layer of home security.
