Iran ‘executes two Israeli spies by hanging’ as fears of new Middle East war soar | World | News

Iranian state media has claimed that two Israeli spies have been executed by hanging as tensions in the Middle East soar.

Tehran’s regime-controlled media claimed two spies, Yacub Karimpour and Naser Bakarzadeh, were killed for ” the crime of intelligence cooperation and espionage in favour of the Zionist regime and the Mossad intelligence service.”

They added: “Nasser Bakarzadeh also, at the behest of the Mossad officer, collected the identities of important government, religious, and provincial figures, access key centres like the Natanz region, and sent them to the service’s agent.”

The executions have not been confirmed by the Israeli government.

The claim comes as US President Donald Trump announces that the war in Iran has been “terminated.”

His statement came 60 says after the war was launched on February 28. The War Powers Act of 1973 dictates that a president can deploy troops to respond to an “imminent threat” but must receive congressional approval within 60 days to continue military operations.

Trump added: “On April 7, 2026, I ordered a 2-week ceasefire,” the letter, addressed to Republican House speaker Mike Johnson and Republican senator Chuck Grassley, the president pro tempore of the Senate, continues.

“The ceasefire has since been extended. There has been no exchange of fire between United States Forces and Iran since April 7, 2026. The hostilities that began on February 28, 2026, have terminated.”
