Beef lasagne recalled from Tesco and Morrisons due to seafood | UK | News
A popular food item has been urgently recalled due to the potential presence of undisclosed seafood.
La Famiglia Rana’s Slow-Cooked Braised Beef Lasagne packs may inadvertently contain prawns and lobster, posing a severe danger for anyone with a shellfish allergy.
The Food Standards Agency has raised the alert, highlighting this as “a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to crustaceans”.
People who have bought La Famiglia Rana’s lasagne and are allergic to crustaceans should heed the warning from the agency: “If you have bought the product and have an allergy to crustaceans, do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund (even without a receipt).”
Affected are 700g packs from Giovanni Rana (UK) Ltd, which can be found in supermarkets such as Tesco and Morrisons. These are identified by the batch code L0B510816 with the use-by date of 17 June 2025, as reported by Wales Online.
In terms of allergies, Allergy UK notes that fish and shellfish belong to the 14 allergens regulated under the Food Standards Agency. Individuals with crustacean allergies show negative immune reactions to certain proteins found in these marine creatures.
Reactions vary as some people might react to all kinds of shellfish, whereas others could only be sensitive to certain species.
Symptoms of an allergic reaction can encompass a rash or hives, feeling lightheaded, swelling of the mouth, tongue, face or other parts of the body, difficulty in breathing and stomach discomfort. A more severe reaction, known as anaphylaxis, can result in throat swelling, shock, a rapid heartbeat and loss of consciousness.
