Hurricane Milton LIVE: First storm deaths confirmed | World | News

Visitors to Disney World Florida have been left stranded due to Hurricane Milton.

Florida’s storm-weary Gulf Coast was bracing ahead of Hurricane Milton, while Virgin Atlantic cancelled flights to the UK ahead of the storm.

And there is little prospect of any fun at the theme parks as the storm comes barrelling in.

“We’ve come to the realisation that we’re stuck here,” said Telissa Carpenter, who is on holiday at Disney to celebrate her son’s 30th birthday, in an interview with our US partner, NBC News.

Ms Carpenter first became aware of any weather concerns a day after arriving in Florida, when she received a notification on her Disney app informing her that the resort was monitoring a rapidly progressing storm.

A few hours later, she received another notification, this time from her airline: her flight home, which was scheduled for Tuesday, had been cancelled.

According to Walt Disney World Magazine, only a small number of hurricanes have forced the parks to close in Disney’s more than 50-year history.

The area relies heavily on tourism, with theme parks making it the most visited destination in the United States, attracting 74 million tourists last year.
