New European train line links three cities with easy UK access from £8 | World | News
A new train line that’s been described as the “easyJet of the rails” is set to launch on the continent.
UK rail fans will be able to jump aboard the new service which will run between Amsterdam in the Netherlands, Berlin in Germany and Copenhagen in Denmark.
GoVolta, the Dutch train operator, is launching the daily services in 2025.
One service will run between Amsterdam and Berlin and another will run Amsterdam and Copenhagen. Another route to Paris set to operate from 2026.
The Netherlands is easily accessible to Brits thanks to the Eurostar.
Hessel Winkelman and Maarten Bastian – the founders of GoVolta – described their rail company as the “easyJet of the rails”.
A standard second-class seat is likely to cost less than €10 (£8.56) – and tickets will be on sale from this October.
Last month Eurostar announced that it is changing the way passengers can purchase tickets from November – and that it’s set to make it more affordable for some.
Until recently, only passengers who had purchased premium cabins had the freedom to change their travel plans.
But this is set to change, with Eurostar announcing flexible fares as standard across all travel.
The railway company is also changing its travel classes – renaming them to Eurostar Standard, Eurostar Plus and Eurostar Premier.
Eurostar Standard is set to be the more economical option, with drinks and food available to purchase from the cafe onboard. Eurostar Plus passengers can enjoy more comfortable seating as well as a workspace and meal.
And those travelling in Eurostar Premium will also have access to food service, lounges and the use of a priority lane to avoid queuing.
All classes will have access to generous baggage allowances, free seat bookings and Wi-Fi too. All of which give the service one up flight operators.
Those travelling using Standard and Plus tickets can exchange them without a fee as many times required until just one hour before departure.
Unused tickets can also be refunded up to seven days before travel, with Premier customers able to exchange in the same way. Those paying for a Premium ticket can get a refund up to two days before the scheduled departure.
The new rules apply to tickets booked after April 23, while sales for the travel classes apply to journeys after November 4.
