Inside Prince Harry’s ‘warm’ relationship with Princess Diana’s family | Royal | News

Prince Harry is said to have maintained a “warm” relationship with his late mother, Princess Diana‘s family.

The late royal, who died in 1997, grew up with three siblings – Lady Sarah McCorquodale, Lady Jane Fellowes and Charles, 9th Earl Spencer.

Harry recently travelled to the UK to attend his uncle’s funeral in Norfolk on August 28. Lord Robert Fellowes’ was married to Diana’s sister, Lady Jane.

According to PEOPLE, Harry opted to stay with his uncle Charles at Althorp for the short duration of his visit – likely citing how close he is with Diana’s side of the family.

Following his late sister’s death, Charles is known to have ensured that he would be present for his nephews. As well as delivering a moving eulogy at the service, he also walked alongside Prince Harry and Prince William – then aged 12 and 15 – in their mother’s funeral cortège.

In support of their nephew, Lady Jane and Charles attended the ceremony at St Paul’s Cathedral to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games back in May.

Harry’s cousins – George McCorquodale, Ned Spencer and Louis Spencer, Viscount Althorp – were all also in attendance.

As per HELLO!, the Duke’s warm relationship was also evident when Charles chose to attend the unveiling of a statue of Diana in the gardens at Kensington Palace in July 2021. To mark their late mother’s 60th birthday, this unveil was also attended by William.

The Spencer family were also present at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding back in 2018, with Lady Jane chosen to give a reading during the ceremony.

Lady Sarah and Lady Jane attended Prince Archie’s christening in Windsor in July 2019. To mark the special occasion, Harry’s aunts’ appeared in an official portrait on the day.

Meghan Markle has also visited Althorp and has visted his late mother’s resting place, with Harry recalling the poignant memory in his bombshell memoir Spare.

Describing how he and Meghan got into a boat to row across to the private island on the estate, Harry wrote: “Uncle Charles came down to the water’s edge, gave us a little shove. We waved to him, and to my two aunts. Bye. See you in a bit. Gliding across the pond, I gazed around at Althorp’s rolling fields and ancient trees, the thousands of green acres where my mother grew up, and where, though things weren’t perfect, she’d known some peace.”
