Gunman arrested after fleeing mansion under siege by police | UK | News

Armed police have apprehended a gunman who managed to escape from his £1.5m country home while it was under siege. Thomas Daniels-Poulis, 30, fled from the 18th-century Marsham Hall at Marsham north of Norwich, Norfolk, while the property was surrounded by armed officers.

The Grade II-listed property was called upon by officers around 7.15pm on Tuesday, following concerns for the safety of a man living there and reports of an assaulted woman. Upon arrival, Mr Daniels-Poulis was seen inside the property holding a firearm and behaving threateningly, prompting more police units, including armed officers, trained negotiators, police drones and dogs, as well as several ambulances, to be called to the scene.

Police finally entered and searched the property shortly before 6pm on Wednesday, but found no trace of Mr Daniels-Poulis, although they did discover two air rifles and a crossbow. The property, located down a long drive just off the A140, between Aylsham and Norwich, is surrounded by a number of outbuildings and backs onto open farmland.

Police confirmed that no-one was injured in the incident and that they did not want to enter the property until they could do so safely. At 9.22pm this evening, Norfolk Police provided an update on their website, stating: “Police can confirm a 30-year-old man wanted by police has been arrested.

“Thomas Daniels-Poulis of Marsham was arrested by police in the West Midlands at about 7.30pm this evening (Thursday 5 September 2024) on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

“A woman aged in her 50s has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both will be returned to Norfolk for questioning. We would like to thank the media and public for their assistance in sharing this appeal.”
